Rashema Melson

Rashema (she/her) is a remarkable young woman who grew up in Southeast Washington, D.C. Throughout her youth and young adult life she faced homelessness, living in abandoned houses, couch surfing, motel hopping, and eventually in the DC General family homeless shelter. She has continuously gone up against vigorous challenges and she has overcome them, equipped with the mindset that she will continue to conquer any obstacles in her way. She is determined to break generational curses no matter the circumstances.

Rashema graduated from Georgetown University in Spring 2019, with a B.A. in Justice and Peace Studies. Over the past few years, she has worked with multiple non-profit organizations (Bright Beginnings Inc, Time's Up Foundation, National Coalition for the Homeless) and on numerous HUD technical assistance projects, helping to dismantle oppressive systems and lead individuals experiencing homelessness to self-sufficiency.

Most importantly, Rashema is committed to continuing to use her voice and mentorship to pour hope, love, and resilience into underserved communities.
